Let me tell you a secret: THIS COBBLER HAS FIVE INGREDIENTS AND IS EASY PEASY AND DELICIOUS.

I guess it’s not that much of a secret anymore. Whoops. I’ve never been good at keeping secrets, anyways. Now, after you read this, I want you to immediately make the cobbler, then come to my house and give it to me.

Well, actually, don’t do that because I am going away tomorrow, so do it when I get back, Tuesday. Or slip it in my fridge while I’m gone so I come home to cobbler. Either way, get it to me, please and thank you.

Start with a fruit. I made blueberry peach cobbler, and I separated them (as you’ll see) but you can mix ’em if you’d like.

Here is my peach. Ree calls for two cups of fruit, whereas I used about one and a half of each (I doubled the recipe.)

Ree also calls for self-rising flour, which I didn’t have any of. Turns out it’s easy to make. Start with a cup of flour (this is two cups.)

You’ll need 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder for every cup of flour.

And you’ll need about a 1/2 teaspoon salt per cup of flour. And now you have your very own self-rising flour!

Now that we’ve done that, you’re going to melt a stick (or two if you’re into doubling things) of butter.

While that is melting, put a cup (or two, like me) of sugar into your flour.

Add all your melted butter, and whisk.

Not pictured: buttering a 9 by 13 pan and adding the batter to the pan. Then adding your fruit.

See what I mean? I separated them out. Don’t be like me: mix ’em in. Or don’t. Or add another fruit. Or do one fruit. Whatever you want!! Suggestions include: peach, plum, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, huckleberry, all the berries, all the stone fruits.

When you get to this stage, add about 1/2 of the sugar you have left. Stick it in the oven at 350 for about forty five minutes to an hour. About ten minutes before it’s done, add the rest of your sugar.

And there you go! Delicious, amazing, heart-melting, time-transporting cobbler. Go forth! Enjoy!

For our last post about the comic shoot, I bring you pretzels, and pies. And hearts.

These pretzels are basically the easiest thing, ever. You melt chocolate (we used white chocolate) and then dip/sprinkle the pretzels with sprinkles (in the primary + green colors, or whatever colors your heart desires.) Don’t let the chocolate get too hard, or else they won’t stick!

Use toothpicks to hold them up so they don’t lose too many sprinkles!

To make our beautiful strawberry pie, we used pie crust, then used a star cookie cutter to cut them out (before baking).

I didn’t actually make this into a delicious pie (secret!) because I didn’t want to waste the supplies, so I filled the pie crust with bread, and then covered that with strawberries, and then baked THAT.

Delicious, secret, bread filled pie.

We also made sandwiches and wrapped them in wax paper with little hearts cut out of them, wrapped in twine.

And finally, a few photos from the the day — George and I warming up Barbra (she was VERY cold.)

Here we are, posing with our cupcakes (notice Mary, Barbra, and Bryant in the background — amazing.)

So, that’s a wrap! Have you ever done a photo shoot or food styling? Tell me about it!

I have said it before: I am not an arts and crafts girl. I think its because I am not a perfectionist, and easily get bored with what I am doing. As a result, when Mary asked me to do the food for her shoot, I said, “Sure,” and called Becca up. This was going to require her expertise.

We started with food gels, which I now will swear by. If you need to dye something and you really want it to become a rich, deep color, then you need food gel coloring.

We also needed fondant for this project. I had never worked with it, but since have worked with it several times, and I am still of the opinion that I’d rather have a cake look less “perfect” and be covered in frosting, any day. It’s not that fondant tastes bad, it just doesn’t taste good  and as something that’s mostly sugar, I feel like it should. Plus, after you use your hands to color, mold, and build something out of fondant, you’re less likely to actually want to eat that thing you just made of fondant.

Back to food gel coloring. It is the consistency of jelly, and it will definitely produce the actual color you want.

We started with the lightest color we needed – yellow, and worked to dark. We needed the primary colors, plus black.

Becca was generous to do the primary colors. I agreed to do black.

My hands may look purple, but it ended up being black. Becca and I had colored hands for a week. But unless you have a fondant roller, you really need to do this by hand.

So we wrapped the fondant in wax paper and kept it overnight for when we were ready for rolling out! I used Illustrator to create the templates for our fondant toppers.

Here is Becca, working on Wonder Woman.

I had to rework the Superman, but I think I got it.

So make cupcakes, and pipe some frosting on them. Ideally, these would have had bigger muffin tops.

Tomorrow I’ll show you a few behind the scenes photos, as well as how to make the pretzel rods and pie we made for the shoot – stay tuned!

Back in March, Mary, Becca, Jess, and I planned, organized and put on a photo shoot with our good friends Barbra and Bryant of Fanboy Comics. Becca and I did the food styling, Jess did the graphic design and general set design, Angel did the hair and makeup, and Mary, of course, had vision and took the photos.

Because of everyone’s hard work, and because Mary is such an amazing photographer, I am happy to say that Mary’s photographs are being featured on Green Wedding Shoes!

Here are a few shots from the day, all from Ms. Mary.

Here are the fondant toppers that Becca and I made.

We also made a star-topped strawberry pie, and pretzels dipped in chocolate and rolled in sprinkles.

We wrapped sandwiches in wax paper with hearts cut from them — an idea we’d seen on Pinterest.

Jess, Becca, and I set up our picnic scene to feature our cupcakes, comics, suitcases, and of course, Barbra and Bryant.

Aren’t those labels so cute? Jess whipped them up — and we placed them on soda bottles!

Aren’t these two just so cute? I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to be in their wedding!

Thanks to everyone involved, including our superhero boyfriends Jeff and George, for helping us make this vision a reality! This was a team effort that I will certainly never forget! Check us out next week for behind the scenes photos from the making of!

For this Friday I wanted to show you something weird, amazing, wacky, and delicious.

So of course, I looked around to see what I could find.

1. Olive Oil Gelato. I must have it. I must try it. Get me a bowl of it, pronto.

2. Bacon fat Kale Chips. Although I wish Becca would try these, something tells me that she won’t.

3. Pizza Dough Cinnamon Rolls. Does life really get better than that?

4. Slutty Brownies. I love the name, the idea, everything about them.

5. Kale, Pluot, Ricotta Pizza. This might just have to be one of the stone fruit recipes….
