Peaches! When there are nectarines and plums and apricots to have (cherries too.) And out of them all (with the exception of maraschino cherries, once) I&#8217;ve never written about any of them!<\/p>\n<p>But, what is a stone fruit, you ask? The stone fruit is a group of fruits from the <em>Prunus<\/em>\u00a0genus, and are closely related. The ones I&#8217;ve listed above I can find locally, although there are other fruits in this group (think mango.) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardeningchannel.com\/health-benefits-of-peaches\/\">Peaches<\/a>, nectarines,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whfoods.com\/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&amp;dbid=35\">plums<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whfoods.com\/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&amp;dbid=3\">apricots<\/a>\u00a0are high in vitamin A and C, and also have many antioxidants. (Peaches and nectarines are technically the same fruit, they just come in fuzzy and bare, so to speak.)\u00a0They also have a bit of fiber to help with digestion, and are high in calcium!<\/p>\n<p>Peaches originated in China, apricots in Armenia, and plums mostly came from Armenia, too. They spread the world and grow well in California (yes!) They grow on trees, and they&#8217;re in season usually from June to September.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve taken to eating cut up stone fruit with my breakfast in place of the berries of earlier in the spring, and I&#8217;m loving it. Nectarines and peaches cut well, and usually I just eat plums straight (so juicy!). I plan on exploring the\u00a0gamut, ranging from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/06\/24\/magazine\/a-dozen-ways-to-serve-stone-fruit.html\">grilled fruit<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marthastewart.com\/275422\/plum-recipes\/@center\/276955\/seasonal-produce-recipe-guide#\/309720\">sweets<\/a> to soup.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC_0273.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7015\" title=\"DSC_0273\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC_0273.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC_0273.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC_0273-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC_0273-451x300.jpg 451w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC_0273-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: did you know almonds are related to the stone fruit? Therefore, if you&#8217;re allergic to stone fruit you are ALSO allergic to almonds! Almonds are actually the &#8220;stone&#8221; of the almond fruit. In Italy, the stone (kernel) of apricots are sometimes used the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apricot_kernel\">same way <\/a>almonds are!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your favorite stone fruit recipe?
