For example, meals at home can be adapted, where restaurants quickly become tricky territory. And bakeries? Unless they&#8217;re gluten free dedicated, forget it! And so, holidays, birthdays, and the like can quickly become frustrating.<\/p>\n<p>We learned this all too quickly last year at Melissa&#8217;s birthday, when we wanted to make her a cake but were still new to gluten free cooking. This year, like last, we opted for a gluten free baking mix because they are easily accessible, and the great people at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bettycrocker.com\/products\/gluten-free-baking-mixes\">Betty Crocker<\/a> already have done the math for us for the proportions of flours, gums, and other key ingredients that make gluten free baking difficult.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4303\" title=\"DSC_0008\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0008.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0008.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0008-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0008-451x300.jpg 451w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0008-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a>We used yellow cake, per Melissa&#8217;s request, and Betty Crocker&#8217;s Rainbow Chip frosting (which is already gluten free, so go them!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4304\" title=\"DSC_0012\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0012.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0012-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0012-451x300.jpg 451w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC_0012-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a>The cake was definitely delicious, but did crack easily (which is something to be wary of when making gluten free cakes.) I will definitely be trying other cake mixes (I know King Arthur has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingarthurflour.com\/glutenfree\/\">gluten free line<\/a>, and I use their gluten free all purpose flour) and I am excited to see what is in store in the gluten free mix line. Someday, Melissa and I will build our scratch gluten free collection, but I&#8217;d say this is a good start.
