deconstructed."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Morning, chickens!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m here with another near-disaster-turned delicious post to share with you all.<\/p>\n<p>When Jennie asked me to post again, I once again reached for something a little out of the ordinary, but nothing so complicated it couldn&#8217;t be replicated easily.<\/p>\n<p>I chose the elusive souffle.<\/p>\n<p>First I watched this clip of Julia Child doing it, because she always cracks me up and also makes me believe I can do anything I set my mind to.<\/p>\n<p>With a glass of wine in hand, to boot.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"640\" height=\"480\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Once I felt fearless, I searched the internet and decided to use\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.housebeautiful.com\/kitchens\/recipes\/spinach-souffle\">this recipe<\/a> by Ina Garten (otherwise known as the Barefoot Contessa) because I knew she wouldn&#8217;t let me down.<\/p>\n<p>Then I called Ky, asked her to bring me some ingredients, and poured us two big glasses of wine.<\/p>\n<p>I find that to be the first step to cooking success.<\/p>\n<p>When Ky showed up, she presented me with her ingredients, which included a fairly suspicious bag of cream of tartar from Whole Foods.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5036.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4141\" (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We laughed an immature laugh and then bravely took ourselves into the souffle abyss.<\/p>\n<p>The thing about souffle, it turns out, is that it only actually has one part that&#8217;s actually difficult.<\/p>\n<p>The rest just looks like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5037.jpg\"><img (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is when things got a little nervewracking.<\/p>\n<p>The instruction was to beat egg whites into firm peaks.<\/p>\n<p>Firm, but not stiff.<\/p>\n<p>It took some experimentation, but what we came up with, in our wine-fueled assessment, was this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5043.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4146\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5043-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then we mixed that in with the rest of our cheese-milk-flour-egg yolk-spinach souffle goodness and put it into our souffle pan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5047.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5047-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5047-300x225.jpg 300w, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We used the spatula to draw a circle in the middle (Ky was muttering something about eliminating surface tension, but I was just following directions), put the souffle in the oven at 375 degrees for 40 minutes, and said a little souffle prayer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5049.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4148\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5049-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5049-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5049-300x225.jpg 300w, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When we got back, we pulled this out of the oven, as Ky made exaggerated hand movements every time I moved the souffle even one inch.<\/p>\n<p>She had concerns it would fall, and I&#8217;m not really know for my grace and coordination.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5052.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4149\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5052-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5052-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5052-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5052-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/IMG_5052-133x100.jpg 133w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIt was delicious, spinach-y, and pretty light, and it puffed up.<\/p>\n<p>But not as much as I had hoped, to be honest.<\/p>\n<p>We attribute that, in our scientific findings, to the fact that we used unmeasured (read: too much) amounts of spinach and cheese, which may have weighed down our poor little souffle.<\/p>\n<p>But since the results were delicious, we decided not to dwell too much- we&#8217;ll make the necessary adjustments next time around.<\/p>\n<p>And there you have it- another sensationalized dish made easy (but not perfectly) in the Second City kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy,
