Inevitably, this results in a \u201clooking back\u201d post full of embarrassing photos featuring us in near-pajamas shoving a raw turkey into the oven, or admitting publicly just how much time we spend planning, scheduling, and color coding our Thanksgiving day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/marycostaphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Thanksgiving06.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"680\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Well, this year is no exception. In 2014, we are embracing how ridiculous our Thanksgiving retrospective and live-blogged posts actually are. It\u2019s the one time each year that we stop caring about perfectly plated food blogger photos and let ourselves step in front of the camera in all our mid-cooking, frazzled, sweaty glory. This year, we want to highlight everything embarrassing about past Garlic, My Soul Thanksgivings. Brace yourself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2008:<\/strong> Our first year cooking together, even before we had GMS. Jennie actually gave herself a <a href=\"http:\/\/jenniepalluzzi.com\/blog\/ill-need-a-meat-thermometer\" target=\"_blank\">6 week plan<\/a> to research how to cook a turkey!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/_External_Import\/garlicmysoul.com\/photos\/var\/resizes\/Throwback-Fridays\/Jennie%20and%20Corelyn%202008-712072751.jpg?m=1321589247\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"604\" height=\"453\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2009:<\/strong> We tried <a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/thanksgiving-prep\/\" target=\"_blank\">brining<\/a>. Somewhere between spilling the brining liquid all over the front seat of Jennie\u2019s moving vehicle on Thanksgiving morning and plunging our hands into ice cold water to fish out our massive turkey, we decided wet brining isn\u2019t for us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_YmQcBSp-FtM\/Sw7XQ4wF0eI\/AAAAAAAAAtE\/z8uY3PyJKiY\/s640\/IMG_0077.JPG\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/_External_Import\/lh5.ggpht.com\/_YmQcBSp-FtM\/Sw7YA6OLXeI\/AAAAAAAAAuk\/DTPtu3ZWHyI\/s512\/IMG_0114.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2010:<\/strong> The year we went Gluten Free for the sake of our friends with GF dietary needs. Many consultations were required to ensure our anti-gluten efforts paid off, and at least one of those consultations occurred via video chat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/_External_Import\/jenniepalluzzi.com\/photos\/var\/resizes\/Thanksgiving-2010\/DSC_0365.jpg?m=1290712297\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2011:<\/strong> Although I was living on the East coast at the time, I <a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/two-weeks-and-counting\/\" target=\"_blank\">flew out to LA<\/a> for the holiday. It was a whirlwind weekend of planning, cooking and eating. We were in a new kitchen for both of us at our friend Paul\u2019s house, and we were so excited to catch up with each other and have our favorite day together!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/marycostaphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Thanksgiving03.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"680\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_00841.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"1000\" height=\"664\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s crowning moments were <a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/live-blogging-the-turkey\/\" target=\"_blank\">using tinfoil to tie up the turkey<\/a> (we always, always forget twine) and a last minute panicked <a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/throwback-fridays-the-actual-most-wonderful-time-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">text message conversation<\/a> about the size of Paul&#8217;s oven.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_0041.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"1000\" height=\"664\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2012:<\/strong> This year we were apart for Thanksgiving for the first time in four years, and we still managed to make Thanksgiving happen amazingly for our <a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/2012-la-thanksgiving-live-blogging\/\" target=\"_blank\">LA crew<\/a>, while Jennie <a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/live-blogging-from-chicago\/\" target=\"_blank\">live-blogged<\/a> and video chatted in from Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013:<\/strong> We were back together and better than ever\u00a0in 2013, and it was our first year hosting in one of our homes. We bought all our veggies last year from the farmers\u2019 market, we launched our new web design on the most wonderful day of the year, and we even had an official hashtag to have people follow along with photos of the day &#8211; which helped us out so we weren\u2019t stuck behind a camera.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC_41911.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1068\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/_External_Import\/www.jeffhayford.com\/photo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/DSC_4554.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic, My Soul | A Thanksgiving Lookback\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1068\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also gave everyone a sneak peek at our planning process, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/jenniepalluzzi.com\/blog\/pre-thanksgiving-prep\" target=\"_blank\">infamous oven schedule<\/a>. It has come a long way over the years! For us that means letting our friends help with more of the main dishes so we can focus on relaxing, enjoying the day with friends, and experimenting with new turkey recipes.
