Every now and then, even paleo eaters want some version of pizza (without having to cheat) so I set out to try and make a decent one that would satisfy my craving and satisfy my friends.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1237.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13237\" alt=\"Paleo Pizza | Garlic, My Soul\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1237-1200x801.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1237-1200x801.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1237-800x534.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1237-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1237.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But that wasn\u2019t all. I also have friends with allergies and I wanted to not only make a pizza I <i>wanted<\/i> to eat, but also one they <i>could<\/i> eat, which limited my options even more. For example, the first crust I considered from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theluckypennyblog.com\/2013\/05\/the-best-dairy-free-cauliflower-pizza.html\">The Lucky Penny Blog<\/a> had cauliflower as a main ingredient so that was out. Then, the inspiration for this recipe came from <a href=\"http:\/\/civilizedcavemancooking.com\/reviews\/gather-review\/\">The Art of Paleo Entertaining<\/a>, but it used almond flour, another no-no.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1198.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13239\" alt=\"Paleo Pizza | Garlic, My Soul\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1198-800x1200.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1198-800x1200.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1198-667x1000.jpg 667w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1198-500x749.jpg 500w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1198.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I ended up trying a mixture of ground cashews and walnuts (thanks to my new mini food processor) with a pretty successful result. The crust was sweet but not too sweet. It sort of had a ritz cracker consistency but the herbs and spices helped it work as a crust. Add in the sauce and toppings and presto! A very successful recipe that my friends and I gobbled up.<\/p>\n<p>This recipe also features coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, who we generally love (<a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/giveaway-tropical-traditions-coconut-oil\/\">see why here.<\/a>) Coconut oil is one of our favorite things to add to dishes because it&#8217;s so versatile &#8211; we have even started throwing it in our smoothies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pizza Crust<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><br \/>\nAbout 2 cups cashew meal<br \/>\nAbout 1\/4 cup walnut meal<br \/>\n1\/2-3\/4 cup arrowroot flour<br \/>\n2 teaspoons gluten-free baking powder<br \/>\n1 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1 teaspoon black pepper<br \/>\n2 teaspoons dried oregano (or 2 tbsp fresh oregano)<br \/>\n1 teaspoon dried basil (or 2 tbsp fresh basil)<br \/>\n1 teaspoon dried marjoram<br \/>\n1 teaspoon garlic powder<br \/>\n1 teaspoon onion powder<br \/>\n1\/4 cup coconut oil, melted<br \/>\n2 eggs<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><br \/>\n1.) Preheat oven to 325.<br \/>\n2.) In a large bowl, combine cashew meal, walnut meal, arrowroot flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, marjoram, garlic powder, onion powder, coconut oil and eggs.<br \/>\n3.) Mix until dough forms (We had to add a little more arrowroot flour, cashew meal and walnut meal in order to get a thicker, more dough-like consistency. You want to be able to make a dough-like ball out of the mixture.)<br \/>\n4.) Spread dough out onto a large baking sheet until it\u2019s about 1\/4 inch thick.<br \/>\n5.) Bake the dough for about 30-35 minutes until it becomes firm.<br \/>\n6.) While crust is baking, make your sauce and toppings.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1115.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13241\" alt=\"Paleo Pizza | Garlic, My Soul\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1115-1200x801.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1115-1200x801.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1115-800x534.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1115-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1115.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/budgetpaleo.blogspot.com\/2012\/06\/moms-paleo-pizza-sauce.html\">Pizza Sauce<br \/>\n<\/a>Ingredients:<br \/>\n<\/strong>1 7-8 oz can organic tomato sauce<br \/>\n1 5-6 oz can organic tomato paste<br \/>\n2 tsp dried minced onion (or 2 tbsp fresh onion)<br \/>\n1 tsp dried basil (or 1 tbsp fresh basil)<br \/>\n\u00be teaspoon dried oregano<br \/>\n\u00bc tsp garlic powder or granulated garlic<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions: (continued)<br \/>\n<\/strong>1.) Combine ingredients and simmer on low while crust is cooking.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13238\" alt=\"Paleo Pizza | Garlic, My Soul\" src=\"http:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1225-1200x801.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1225-1200x801.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1225-800x534.jpg 800w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1225-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/garlicmysoul.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC_1225.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pizza Toppings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<br \/>\n<\/strong>1 pound ground turkey<br \/>\n1 pack sliced mushrooms<br \/>\n\u00bd onion, peeled and cut into slices<br \/>\n1 tbsp salt<br \/>\n1 tbsp pepper<br \/>\n1 tbsp garlic powder<br \/>\n1 tbsp coconut aminos<br \/>\n*optional: fennel seeds<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions: (continued)<br \/>\n<\/strong>1.) Set sliced mushrooms and chopped onion aside.<br \/>\n2.) Mix ground turkey with the seasoning, coconut aminos and fennel seeds, if desired.<br \/>\n3.) Ball the mixture into small quarter-sized meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter). 4.) Sautee the meatballs in a little olive oil. Be sure to sear the sides until you get a nice brown crust. Then set them aside (they will also bake once in the oven on the pizza).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Directions:<br \/>\n<\/strong>1.) Add sauce and toppings to your pizza<br \/>\n2.) Bake for 30 minutes. Onions should be a little crispy.
